What Ingredients Go Into Making Our Beard Oil & Beard Balm

Our Organic Beard Balm & Oil Ingredients

We get asked all the time about our natural ingredients that go into our Beard Balm and our Beard Oil. We don't list all of them here but these are some of the main ones that go into making a great Beard Balm and a great Beard Oil. We chose to talk about the ingredients that we felt were most important to our products and what gave them their key characteristics.

Bees wax

Beeswax

More than just an ingredient used to lock in moisture give you control and tame flyaway beard hair.  Beeswax is used in our recipes because of its healing properties.  We also chose beeswax because it has holding characteristics that we use in our beard balm. Beeswax is anti-allergenic and anti-inflammatory which means it actually helps soothe irritated skin and follicles.  It aides in moisture retention and softening of the skin and hair.  It contains anti-germicidal properties which have been shown in studies to help heal very minor skin cuts, abrasions and even some wounds.  A little lesser known fact that most people actually don't realize is that Beeswax is also known to promote hair growth.....beard hair growth!

Sweet almond oil

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet Almond Oil is the oil that is extracted from Sweet Almonds.  We chose to include organic sweet almond oil and our beard oil formula for the ultimate result. Although it’s primary function is to act as a “hair protector” and sealant, It is also very rich in Vitamin A which is good for maintaining beard hair follicles.  It also contains a large number of Vitamins B1 and B6 which have been shown to promote hair growth and any hair growth means beard hair as well. Vitamin E, which in essence, means that it is rich in antioxidants, and increases blood circulation to the applied area, which helps with nutrient delivery.  Sweet Almond oil is also loaded with saturated as well as Monounsaturated fatty acids so it does a great job penetrating the shaft of the hair follicle and moisturizing from deep down to the inside.  Almond oil along being good for your beard hair it is also amazing for your skin underneath your beard. Along with the above benefits (which are pretty awesome), it also does a fantastic job of making your beard shiny, silky, and much more vibrant.

Apricot kernel oil

Apricot Kernel Oil

The Apricot tree is a part of the rose family, people don't realize this but it actually is. It originates from Central and East Asia.  The oil itself is derived from the little dried seeds of the fruit and is composed mostly of oleic and linoleic acid, both of which are unsaturated fats that help your skin maintain what we would call its natural moisture and balance.  The oil also contains Vitamin A, Vitamin C, it’s rich in Vitamin E, Potassium, and dietary Fibers.  The oil itself is a very light oil which does NOT leave a very greasy feeling on the skin or your hair.  It absorbs quickly into the hair and skin and helps it moisturize internally.  AKO is also shown to relieve the itch and irritation of eczema, and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.  While Viking Beard Brand makes no real claims regarding speeding up hair or beard growth, we do recognize the fact that AKO improves hair texture and provides a better environment for hair growth. A better environment for hair growth generally leads to better overall growth for your beard hair.

Jojoba seed oil

Jojoba Oil

We chose to include all natural organic Jojoba oil is the oil that is produced from the seed of the Jojoba plant which is native to Northwestern Mexico, Southern Arizona and Southern California.  Jojoba oil is actually a “wax” or mobile oil.  A little lesser known fact is that Jojoba oil is used as a replacement for whale oil since the ban on whale oils in the U.S. in 1971.  It is composed almost entirely of mono-esters of long chain fatty acids as well as alcohols.  Which basically means it has an extreme shelf life and super resistance to very high temperatures.  It is very useful in sealing in lots of moisture in the hair and on the face and helps create a barrier between the elements and the hair.  The Vitamin E and Vitamin B-complex properties of Jojoba help with skin repair, keeping your face healthy. This could be considered our key ingredient in our Beard Oil and as a primary styling ingredient with added health features for your skin and your hair. It helps to controls some of your hair loss and helps your follicles grow new healthy hair, by seeping into your follicles and helping to dissolve any of the unwanted blockages and providing nutrients to the skin and to the hair follicle.

Avocado Oil

It may seem really strange to use avocado oil but we've included this ingredient because of it's rich Omega properties and vitamin E which improves the health of your skin and cells. We use Avocado oil because it absorbs into the skin and hair very rapidly and has a high absorption rate which means that it doesn’t leave a residue behind.  It is a nutrient rich oil containing the omega-9, monounsaturated oleic acid which controls water loss and makes your hair softer and more pliable.  Avocado is also an anti-inflammatory and is a very good source of Vitamin E, which is known to improve skin health, and boost the immune system.  Avocado oil also helps a lot to generate healthier skin cells, and is very easily absorbed.

Grape seed oil

Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil is quite simply oil that is pressed from the seeds of grapes.  Most people know this but the oil is very light and thin and ask as somewhat of a carrier oil.  When applied it leaves a very light gloss on the skin and hair which helps with shine.  It is high in Linoleic Acid.  Grapeseed oil acts as a very effective moisturizer as well as a good conditioning agent for your beard hair and your skin beneath.  It also has some ability to strengthen beard hair, stop hair loss, and correct dandruff and beard flakes.

Vitamin E

And last but not least that’s right, good old fashioned Vitamin E.  Why?  Because it is that important.  Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant.  It repairs damaged tissue.  It helps you to build new tissue.  Vitamin E assists and repairs damage to hair follicles, which makes healthy hair follicles, which encourages beard hair growth and healthy skin.  It fights inflammation.  It is quite simply, awesome.

That's it....we have several other ingredients that we use but come check out a regular line of products to find out all of the ingredients and amazing stuff we use in our products.
